Greetings!

So much has been happening all around us and people are talking about Columbia..... in a positive note. This past weekend was another eventful few days with our Antique and Art Show, Fourth Friday and Riverfest! If you are a local reading this make a point to venture to Columbia and check us out. Come have lunch or dinner and visit some antique shops, Susquehanna Glass, Watch and Clock museum or rent a kayak and get a different perspective of the Susquehanna.  Come and join us on Sunday afternoon for our weekly float down the river. Bring a picnic and relax. For those thinking of visiting from afar you will not be able to do everything in one or two days.  We are a place where you have to keep coming back...

Summer is underway and I love this time of year- homegrown fresh fruit and veggies are plentiful and so  much fun to cook! I would love to hear from you what your favorite food to cook with this time of year.  Right now I am into the grilled romaine ceasar salad. It is so easy and if you are growing Romaine great way to use the lettuce. Just cut in am and then rinse, spray with olive oil and salt and pepper and pop on the grill turning often ( i like it when its a little chard) and to make the dressing its just one egg, olive oil, parmesan cheese, garlic and mix in a blender. I add a little sugar or maple syrup and honey mustard and I like to chill a little. Pour over the romaine and add some more pamesan cheese. You have a great salad and nice presentation if you are entertaining...

till next time....cheers

Greetings from Karen, Innkeeper...

I thought I would stay with the upcoming event 'Wine and Art" well actually the Wine part. Thought it would be great to do wine tastings paired with food though I am no "expert" in wine I do love my wine. Wink When I first started drinking wine, I was intimidated by all the different types of wine there are. Over the years I have become more experienced in the "whole" wine etiquette and sometimes I just pick a bottle of wine because of the label or the name (ssshhhh don't tell) and sometimes they are the best ones! My son bought me a wine bible to mark down the name and type of wine and rating which really is a great reference to go back to especially when I find one I really like.  I am getting off track here but the main reason why I want to incorporate some wine events is to expose my guests to the awesome wineries we have here in Lancaster County. The first I will share with you is Nissley Winery.  It is located in Bainbridge about 6 miles up the road.  Its grounds are just beautiful and during the summer months they have lawn concerts that you can attend ( and we have discount tickets).  Its a great night out - bring a picnic and drink some wine and listen or dance to some music.  The wine is good. My favorite is their Rhapsody in Blue - not only because its a neat bottle its really good - crisp white semi dry. It is a blend of French grapes.  The best part is they grow their own grapes.

Also known as a "Dutch baby", this is a terrific 'special day' recipe. If you are strapped for time, you can start it the evening before and pretty much pop it in the oven.
